5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:5-8

Spiritual maturity is not a deadline of efficiency to be met—it is a journey to be lived. We often speed past moments in life when God wants us to intentionally slow down and abide. We want to “move on” or “move past” to something new or more comfortable. But sometimes the best thing to do is revisit the old, tested paths. The process of spiritual discipline is often boring, uneventful, and slow—but it works! Maturity comes through time, determination, and experience. It’s the little things, over time, that produce lasting changes. Read 2 Peter 1:5–8 and think about what God is showing as your next step.
